Welcome.
I’m Vincent - a Dutch Brit based in the Dam.
I was born in the Netherlands, then moved to Germany, then to England, and back to the Netherlands all by the age of 12. If I had to do a little self-psychoanalysis, I’d say that adapting to so many new situations at such a young age has made me adaptable, open-minded, and interested in the world and its people. Then again, that could be nonsense.
After being scouted at 8 and about 10 years of hard work and dedication, my knees and ankles decided that becoming a professional footballer wasn’t the career path for me. Instead, I’m now a mere strategist - albeit a competitive one - and I love making things that move people and solve problems.
By night, I obsess over football, wonder if Manchester United will ever make it back to the top, scour SoundCloud for the perfect techno set, get lost in YouTube rabbit holes, watch Dr Roy Casagranda lectures about the birth of Western Civilisation, can’t seem to decide on my favourite hip-hop album, struggle to end an evening of good food, wine, and company, and question whether or not I have another rave in me.
My favourite quote was written by a man more famous for his painting than his writing, and whom I share a name with, Vincent van Gogh: “Normality is a paved road: It’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it.”
It isn’t just true of life, but also of how I see my role as a strategist. It’s the only place it’s good to be off beat.
I studied International Communication & Media in Utrecht, before landing in advertising, where I have remained naively optimistic for almost 11 years at 180 Amsterdam, W+K London, Jellyfish, and now back at 180.
In that time, I’ve worked in numerous categories including sports (asics, Under Armour, adidas), alcohol (Amstel, Ketel One), telecommunication (Three UK), gaming (PlayStation), fashion (TK Maxx, Bonprix, Replay), travel (Qatar Airways), fintech (QuickBooks), and much more. I’ve helped reposition global brands, and develop the strategic foundations for international campaigns, local activations, product launches, sponsorships, and everything in between - even immersive theatre.
If you have any questions or just want to chat about great work, interesting brands, minimal beats, the end of the world, or Man United please feel free to give me a shout.
